Instructions
Step 1: Mixing the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
Gradually add warm water to the mixture, stirring continuously.
Knead the dough on a floured surface until it becomes smooth and pliable.
Step 2: Rolling Out the Dough
Preheat your oven to 300°F
Roll out the salt dough on a floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 of an inch.
Step 3: Cutting Out Shapes
Use cookie cutters to cut out various holiday shapes from the rolled-out dough. Transfer the cut-out shapes onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Pro tip: feet, hand, and paw prints make great ornaments!
Step 4: Creating Hanging Holes
Use a drinking straw or skewer to create a small hole near the top of each ornament for hanging.
Step 5: Baking
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about an hour or until the ornaments are completely dry and hard. Allow the ornaments to cool completely before decorating.
Step 6: Decorating
Once cooled, it’s time to unleash your creativity! Use acrylic paints to add vibrant colors to your ornaments. Sprinkle glitter, glue on sequins, or add any other embellishments to make your ornaments sparkle.
Step 7: Adding Hanging Strings
Cut pieces of ribbon or twine to your desired length. Thread the ribbon through the holes in the ornaments and tie knots at the ends to create hanging loops.
Step 8: Display and Enjoy
Find the perfect spots on your Christmas tree or around your home to showcase your handmade salt dough ornaments. Revel in the joy of creating lasting memories with your loved ones during this festive season!
