Summary
Tencent is a leading global technology company founded in 1998 with the ambition to connect people. For more than 20 years, Tencent has connected users to content and services through innovative digital and social platforms.
Tencent America is Tencent’s US branch. For more than a decade, it has served as a bridge for U.S. companies looking to operate in China by facilitating unique access to the world’s largest consumer market through Tencent’s unmatched content, distribution, and marketing platforms. More recently, Tencent America has been a hub for Tencent’s global operations in areas such as video games and entertainment products.
Located in Los Angeles at Playa Vista’s Silicon Beach tech corridor, Tencent America’s new state-of-the-art workplace supports its growing video game and entertainment businesses and is the headquarters for its US video game business.
Tencent L.A. comprises more than 53,000 square feet across three floors to spark creativity and drive innovation. The new building consolidates Tencent’s three prior Los Angeles locations under one roof. It can house more than 300 employees, providing an advanced work environment for creating world-class content, next generation technologies, and outstanding experiences.
From visioning sessions with user groups to multiple test fits, extensive planning preceded IA’s design of the new workplace to ensure an inspiring environment. At the double-height lobby, a two-story wall of dichroic glass creates a shifting and unpredictable display of color, an intriguing design feature, enhanced by a 20-foot video screen on an adjacent wall. A custom white neon light fixture suspended from the ceiling spells out Tencent.
Within the overall cohesive design, each business group and gaming studio has its own unique space with a lobby, collaboration zone, work area, and pantry, designed to showcase its work and express its unique personality.
The headquarters supports a variety of functions and features, including state-of-the-art facilities for filming and recording. Products are tested at the user experience studio. Themed conference rooms reference local landmarks and neighborhoods—the Griffith Observatory, LAX, the Hollywood sign, etc. In the open office, flexible work zones provide sit-to-stand desks and an array of collaboration areas and meeting rooms. At the boardroom and executive offices, touches of blue reference the Tencent logo.
Amenities include game rooms, fitness center with showers, a cafeteria that opens to an adjacent training room for all-hands meetings, and more than 3,452 square feet of open-air terraces, giving employees the option of working either inside or out.
