Summary
As a private, independent global investment firm with offices in over 10 cities, Brown Advisory provides strategic financial solutions for individuals, families, and institutions. To meet its rapid growth and relocation to the prominent downtown Austin area, the firm worked with IA to develop a welcoming contemporary space that would reflect its core values premised on trust.
Architectural moments and a variety of spaces for employee and client interaction are inspired by Brown Advisory’s strong, stable foundation, balanced progressive culture, and mission to improve lives through sustainable investments. Authentic materials—stone, marble, and wood—reference the firm’s integrity and strength; refined, flexible elements—soft curves, indirect lighting, and textures—speak to its welcoming culture. This dynamic mix uses a materials palette of brass and warm woods, along with pops of color.
Functional and support-work areas as well as lounge spaces promote productivity but also encourage moments of relaxation and socialization. Workstations are divided into neighborhoods for collaboration without overcrowding. Custom, floating ceilings provide acoustics for open office areas that feel professional but not corporate. Plants and artwork throughout highlight the importance of growth and sustainability with a subtle nod to an Austin aesthetic.
Although boundaries were pushed to create a progressive, warm space, transparency was key to reflecting the firm’s trust-based client relationships. Custom operable, wooden-slat elements suggest both privacy and openness, while spaces with glass fronts emphasize an inviting, adaptable environment for guests and clients. Other design features include a hospitality bar, all-hands space, a hidden library lounge, and small conference and huddle rooms offering privacy and security when needed.
Recently certified as LEED Gold, the new location expresses Brown Advisory’s core values and commitment to trust through a contemporary, open space for a productive employee and client experience.
