Summary

Previously operating out of three different offices, popular meal kit and food delivery company Home Chef tapped IA Interior Architects to create a fresh workspace suited for the company's rapid growth. Situated downtown and on the river, The Old Post Office building provided the ideal space and presented Home Chef with the unique opportunity to take part in Chicago’s latest historic building revitalization.

Designed to celebrate food and emphasize the home in Home Chef, IA incorporated several of the building’s historic architectural details into the design and divided the space to echo rooms of a home, each with unique styles and personalities, similar to their diverse client base. Walking into reception, visitors and staff are greeted with design inspired by the experience of sitting on a front porch.

The various departments are laid out to resemble living rooms, studies, dining rooms and backyard spaces and all connect to a large commercial kitchen at the heart of the space. The state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, dubbed 'The Workshop' is where the beloved Home Chef recipes are created by the chefs and tested by the staff. Food is always being prepared and shared with employees, keeping food and culture at the forefront of the office design concept.

Home Chef’s new space solidifies their commitment to Chicago and encourages gathering, growth, and a place for family to come together. The eclectic mix of furniture and materials with familiar elements creates a comforting atmosphere with food at its center. Home Chef is primed for continual growth as a Chicago mainstay.
