The Future Office is an Operating System

The return-to-office debate has reached its limits. The more consequential question is no longer simply where people work, but how the workplace can evolve alongside a workforce being reshaped by AI, global talent markets, and changing demographics.

In “The Future Office Is an Operating System,” Dan Cheetham, founder and managing principal of FYOOG, an IA company and author and strategist Rishad Tobaccowala argue for a different way of thinking about the workplace: not as a static container, but as an adaptable platform for how organizations operate, connect, and change. The office becomes both hardware and software—physical infrastructure shaped to support a culture and workforce that continue to evolve.

That shift asks more of architecture. Rather than locking organizations into assumptions that may not hold for the life of a lease, the workplace must be designed to respond: enabling new behaviors, supporting changing needs, and creating the conditions for people and businesses to move forward.
