Summary

ICON Collective engaged IA for the relocation of its growing premier music production school to expand its reach and increase its offering of programs and business lines. The new space needed to meet strict acoustic requirements, including sound transmission, noise reduction, and electrical demands, while keeping usability top-of-mind.

During planning, the team ensured the correct ratio of room size and shape and created optimum adjacencies for teams, educators, and students. Production labs, recording studios and vocal booths, mastering labs with tracking rooms, and sound locks were included as specialty areas. Acoustic panels and suspended ceiling clouds were seamlessly incorporated into the overall design.

In primary public areas with fewer technical requirements, the story of the student experience is key—these spaces form the tour route for potential students and their families, serving as a showcase for the student/faculty community. Dimmer overhead lighting and the use of sconces create a focused balance of illumination with the dark colors that ICON is known for.

ICON's comprehensive approach to the creative process is expressed through the use of mandala-inspired artwork and shapes. These circular-patterned elements combine with bold raw materials and colors for a clean, modern aesthetic.
