Continuing IA’s deep commitment to sustainable design and architecture, the firm is pleased to announce that Brett Gardner RID, LEED AP BD+C, CSR-P, has been appointed Director of Sustainability. Brett is a seasoned sustainability expert and certified Sustainability (CSR) Practitioner. His impressive portfolio includes 50 LEED-certified projects, representing 18 million square feet.

In his new role, Brett will ensure that IA delivers projects that meet the highest standards of environmental & social responsibility, energy efficiency, and sustainable design. He will be responsible for leading all of the firm’s established sustainability initiatives, aligning them with our strategic goals, and promoting sustainable programs within our studios. These strategic goals include emission target reductions, building upon our 2022 commitment to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI), as well as leading the annual governance requirements for the near-term and longer-term net-zero targets. Brett will also be supporting our project teams firmwide to ensure success for the AIA2030 Challenge and champion education and professional accreditation (LEED, WELL, Fitwel, LBC, and other major green/well-building certifications).

IA has set ambitious goals to mitigate the impacts of construction waste on the environment; in addition to the SBTI and AIA 2030 commitments, the firm has created its own ESG document and signed on to the Mindful Materials framework. Learn more about all of IA's sustainability approach here.
